Michael Jackson to be Buried Without His Brain + Madonna Tributes The King of Pop

Organ removed as investigators seek clues to star's death

Michael Jackson will be buried this week– without his brain. As his family tries to finalise details for the King of Pop’s funeral on Tuesday they have been told it will be held back for tests.

They faced the grim choice of waiting up to three weeks for Jackson’s brain to be returned to them or go ahead and bury him without it – which they have decided to do.

Los Angeles Coroner’s spokesman Craig Harvey confirmed that neuropathology tests will be carried out to see if it holds any clues to the exact cause of his death.

But the examination cannot begin until at least two weeks after the death when the brain has hardened sufficiently to slice it open.

Jackson died from a cardiac arrest at his Beverly Hills mansion on June 25 after a suspected overdose of painkillers.

Sources at the coroner’s office revealed that his brain was removed before his body was released to relatives the next day.

A forensic neuropathologist will test Jackson’s brain for, among other things, past drug use and whether he has suffered overdoses in the past.

The brain can also show any past abuse of alcohol or if the deceased had suffered from any one of a number of diseases. The source said that removing the brain is the “only way to carry out the tests”.

“The tissue has to be examined,” he said. “I can’t tell you how long that is going to take.”

One expert explained that the Jackson family could decide to wait and bury the brain with the rest of the body. But it is far more common for the lab to burn the remains once they’ve been examined or for them to be placed into the grave at a later date.

“It’s up to the family. They can bury him and then bury the brain later on,” said Dr Cyril Wecht, a former coroner and one of America’s foremost forensic pathologists.

But he added: “It’s rare for the body to be held back for two weeks or more.”

But Dr Wecht said: “The brain cannot be properly examined at the time of the autopsy. You cannot test it while it is in the body. So it is cut off at the spinal cord and removed.”

The brain would usually be placed in a plastic bucket, suspended in formaldehyde fluid, and put in a refridgerator at 4C to preserve it.

Dr Wecht went on: “People don’t realise how soft the brain is. To do the type of detailed examination required you need to have the brain much harder – and for that you have to wait for at least 10 days to two weeks.”

Dr Wecht, who was not involved in the Jackson autopsies, has reviewed and been consulted on many high-profile deaths, including John F. Kennedy, Elvis Presley and Anna Nicole Smith.

“In Los Angeles they have a neuropathologist they work with, and he will be looking at the brain,” he said.

It is cut into sections of less than half-an-inch thick and reviewed first by the naked eye and then through a microscopic. “That all takes 17 to 18 days,” Dr Wecht added in an exclusive interview.

Dr Wecht, who chronicles his career dissecting more than 16,000 bodies in his best- selling memoir A Question Of Murder, added: “In the 47 years I have been doing this I reckon only about one per cent of families say they want the brain back so they can bury it. In most cases it is incinerated.”

The autopsy is expected to show that the 50-year-old singer had drugs in his system when he died.

At various times, he is said to have been taking Demerol and Oxycontin for pain from old back and leg injuries and Diprivan, a hospital anaesthetic, to help him sleep.

- MICHAEL Jackson starred as the Scarecrow in The Wiz, the 1978 musical version of The Wizard of Oz – playing the character without a brain opposite Diana Ross as Dorothy.

Jay-Z Goes With Atlantic for “BLUEPRINT 3"

Spotted at SOHH.COM:
An Atlantic Records rep has announced--via Twitter--Jay-Z's upcoming Blueprint 3 album will be released this fall with the company's marketing assistance.

"@Missinfo: Hey we have Jay-Z Blueprint 3 album, going thru Atlantic," Crespo wrote, unmodified. "1 album to be released September 11th anniversary of 1st Blueprint album." (Nah Right)

Crespo then posted a correction via his Twitter page.
"Correction, people, Jay-Z release is on RocNation, we're assisting in marketing and promotions. D.O.A. comin soon." (Nah Right)

Rap mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs reportedly spoke with Jigga and persuaded him to make a business deal with Warner Music Group.
Looks like Jay-Z's new Blueprint 3 album will go to Warner Music Group after all, though his Roc Nation label is still headed to Sony. Our old pal Roger Friedman reports that Warner had Jay-Z's pal Sean "Diddy" Combs convince him at a recent Lakers game to re-join former IDJ colleague Lyor Cohen for the album, which he bought back from UMG for $5 million. It's apparently a one-off deal, just for this recording. (Hits Daily Double)

Reports last month said Jay would likely create Carter Music Group via Warner.
"Jay knows Lyor and Kevin [Liles] from back when they all worked together at Def Jam, and he obviously wants to work something out with his friends," says our insider. "He wants to get the dream team back together. There have been a few whiffs of a reunion in the past, but only now - and very privately - is something finally starting to happen...This is big in hip hop. These are three of the most powerful men in music, who might be working together, and there's no question the success they'll have as a team will be huge." (New York Daily News)

The rap mogul confirmed his departure and Def Jam buy-out last week.

"I can honestly say, working with Doug Morris and LA Reid has been a unique and fulfilling experience and I respect them immensely," Jay said in an interview. "I've been in the family for almost my entire career. Doug and I spoke directly and had one of the most unique 'negotiations' ever. Doug won the toss but, we both won in the end...I thank him for allowing me to be a completely independent artist. Not every artist can say they own or are given the opportunity to own all of their music." (Rap Radar)

Jay-Z, Eminem, Consult For Activision's 'DJ Hero'

A star-studded crowd in Los Angeles was treated to performances by Jay-Z, Eminem, Travis Barker and DJ AM Monday night (June 2) in celebration of ActiVision’s new game, DJ Hero.

The game is the latest installment of the $2 billion Guitar Hero franchise, set to be released in the Fall for PlayStation 3, PS2, and Xbox 360.

In its standard version, the game is played with a turntable-shaped controller instead of the guitar or drumkit provided with other versions.

Equipped with a spinning record plate, sampling buttons, a cross fader and an sound effects nob, the controller allows players to score points by matching song tracks, creating special effects and adding their own personal touches to the music.

The game includes music from various genres, including Hip-Hop, R&B, electronica, and rock, with music by 50 Cent, Beastie Boys, KRS-One, N.E.R.D., Gorillaz, Blondie and David Bowie.

On Friday (May 29), Guitar Hero announced that Jay-Z and Eminem would be bringing their music and experience to the new game, thus their inclusion in Monday night’s celebration.

In addition to serving as consultants to Activision and FreeStyleGames, who developed DJ Hero, both Jay and Em are working on new greatest-hits CDs, to be included in a special edition of the game.

Jay-Z has revealed that his contributions will include “Izzo (H.O.V.A.),” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” and tracks from the forthcoming Blueprint 3.

“I have a ton of content, I just need the pipeline,” he told USA Today. “I love the freedom of [DJ Hero]. I could wake up tomorrow morning with the idea for a song and call the guys at Activision and start working on getting it out.”

Eminem wasn’t as forthcoming with what he’d bring to the table, saying that DJ Hero will include his music and additional downloadable content to be released by the end of the year.

Despite his shyness in interview, the Detroit rapper gave his all during a 30-minute set at The Wiltern Theater, he bounced through a set made up mostly of tracks from his latest album Relapse, before closing out with “Lose Yourself.”

Prior to launching into the set, Eminem invited Jay-Z back on stage to perform “Renegade,” their critically acclaimed collaboration from Jay-Z’s Black Album.

Prior to making way for the Eminem Show, Jay-Z, accompanied by a live band, performed a series of hit singles including “Izzo,” “99 Problems,” “Dirt Off Your Shoulder,” and “Encore.”

The highlight of his performance, however, was his rendition of the “My President is Black” remix.

Despite the absence of Nas and Jeezy, Jay shared the stage with President Obama and Martin Luther King, Jr., as a montage of photos of both men and Election Day headlines ran in the background.

The A-List crowd in attendance included Hollywood celebs from Leonardo DiCaprio and Ryan Phillipe to Entourage stars Adrian Grenier, Jeremy Piven and Kevin Connolly to celebutante Kim Kardashian.

Also present were plenty of stars from the music world, including Nipsey Hussle, Christina Aguilera, Pete and Ashley Simpson-Wentz, and Warren G, who treated the crowd to an impromptu performance of “Regulators.

And though Jay-Z did not hit the stage until right before Midnight, the crowd was more than adequately entertained.

Following an audio/visual performance by TRV$DJ-AM, DJ AM took the stage alone for a 30-45 minute set, demonstrating exactly why he was one of the DJs chosen to help create and mix DJ Hero.

Skills aside, AM shared a more personal reason for being involved: his hope that it gives fans a new appreciation for the art of turntablism.

“There are so many lame [people] popping up with an iPod and a playlist calling themselves DJs when they’re just a jukebox,” the celebrity DJ said Monday. “This game is incredibly realistic and you realize what it takes to mix two songs together. You actually have to do the work.”

At press time, ActiVision has not yet revealed a price point or rating for the new DJ Hero.

Jimi Hendrix Murder Confession

via-URB:

Now take this as you like: In his recent book, "Rock Roadie," Hendrix's former assistant James "Tappy" Wright claims Hendrix was murdered by his then manager Michael Jeffrey. According to Wright's account, Jeffrey allegedly confessed to Wright that he had murder Hendrix to collect on Hendrix's life insurance policy. At the time, Jeffrey had been written as the beneficiary of Hendrix's $2 million life insurance policy, and according to Wright's alleged conversation with Jeffrey from 1971, Jeffrey was worried Hendrix was going to fire him. Jeffrey, who died in 1973 in a plane crash, is quoted by Wright as saying: "I was in London the night of Jimi's death and together with some old friends... we went round to Monika's [Dannemann] hotel room, got a handful of pills and stuffed them into his mouth...then poured a few bottles of red wine deep into his windpipe...I had to do it. Jimi was worth much more to me dead than alive...That son of a bitch was going to leave me. If I lost him, I'd lose everything." The coroner's report stated that Hendrix died of "barbiturate intoxication and inhalation of vomit."

Interpret this as you see fit, conspiracy theory or not. Be sure to check out the articles in NME and The Daily Mail (UK) for more information.

Red Bull pulled in Germany After Positive Cocaine Test

BERLIN - Six German states have told retailers to stop selling Red Bull Cola energy drinks after a test found a trace amount of cocaine.

The bans started Friday after a sample test conducted by authorities in North Rhine-Westphalia state found 0.4 micrograms per liter in the drink.

Five other states also banned it from shops amid concerns over possible narcotics law violations.
